“Living at the bottom of North Nibley with my studio in my garden I am surrounded by countryside. I am inspired daily with my surroundings. My work mainly concentrates on the local landscape and is informed by my environment. I paint in acrylic on water colour paper or canvas. I sketch on the spot but paint in my studio.
My work is detailed, sometimes some painstaking grasses and foliage appear in the foreground that take many hours of work. I like to observe how fields, hills and the sky interact together. Composition and colour are key and is carefully considered for each painting. I love the countryside all around me and in all its seasons bringing different moods and light into my work. I never stop learning or ever stop being inspired.
Over the last few months, I have been painting a series of woodland paintings. I have been inspired by the many walks during COVID-19. There are 9 paintings altogether at different times of year and different walks each time. This has been a slight diversion to my normal landscape work. Using canvases rather than paper and concentrating on woodland rather than the local fields and hills.”
