Joyce was born in Derby and now lives in Stinchcombe, Gloucestershire. She studied art at Redland College, Bristol and has taught art and design in secondary schools and at the University of the West of England. At the same time, Joyce has continued to pursue her own work.

Joyce’s inspiration has always come from her love of nature. With the changes in our climate imposing a potentially devastating effect on our local landscape, Joyce has been experimenting and exploring colour and scale to illustrate the fragility that is intrinsic within each single form. The colours found in nature can be extraordinarily delicate and subtle but sometimes riotous and flamboyant and her aim is to celebrate that diversity.

Much of Joyce’s work is painted in acrylic and oil on canvas or board, using predominantly the square format but often larger than life size, where textures and markings become a key feature.

You can also find two of Joyce’s pieces in the main entrance.
